Stacie Monday

“My artwork challenges political and cultural issues within the African American community. With each piece, I seek to deconstruct the negative stereotypes of Black women with which we are bombarded on a daily basis. I also address feminine and vulnerable fragments often ignored by society. On the whole, I create work in multiple collections with a theme while using eye-catching and vibrant colors. My work is meant to cause the viewer to stop and engage in conversations relating to social constructs within our society. And because I struggle with expressing my thoughts and experiences in every way but art, I paint in exchange for freedom.”

A self taught artist from Tulsa, Stacie Monday began painting in 2014 using acrylics as her primary medium. The purpose of her work is to celebrate African American women and to be an activist in her community. Her art includes her struggles, experiences, and lessons learned as a Black Woman in America. Each painting is filled with vibrant colors and is full of emotion. She creates the art that she needed to see when she was growing up. Monday is honored to be a storyteller in her community.

Monday has exhibited her work in various regional art shows including “Affirmations” at South Dallas Cultural Center, and a solo show at Sunset Art Studios. She is also a muralist, her work can be viewed at the Bathhouse Cultural Center in Dallas as well as Mag & May luxury apartments in Fort Worth. Her work is currently on display at the African American Museum of Dallas.
